Moderate Hiking (could be difficult for younger siblings) Recommendations |
Hiking Trails at Ragged Mountain (Charlottesville, VA)

Hiking at Camp Shenandoah (Swoope, VA)
Note: Camp Shenandoah has several good trails for moderate hiking. Ask for trail map in main office. |
Hiking Trails at Sherando Lake (near Waynesboro, VA)
Note: Blue Loop trail is a little over 3 miles, takes about 2.5 hours, and has very steep grades at both beginning and end. When you exit to the main road at the end, take the first right to return to main parking via the Lakeside Trail.
Note: The Lakeside Trail is much easier for younger hikers. |
Hiking Trails at White Rock Falls (Lovingston, VA)
Note: The 3 mile rocky trail has many switchbacks and some sections of very steep grade. Park in grass lot at Milepost 18.5 and have hike end at the Slacks Overlook main parking lot at Milepost 20 (have cars at both ends to shuttle tired hikers back at the end). |
